Kenyan Rift
5th -7th March, 2027
This excursion will provide delegates with a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insight into one of the most significant geological features in East Africa.
Itinerary:
Day 1: 5th March 2027
Arrival of delegates in Nairobi.
Day 2: 6th March 2027
Stop 1: Big Five Viewpoint
Delegates will depart from Nairobi, making a stop at the Big Five Viewpoint, to observe the step faulting of the eastern branch of the Great East African Rift Valley. From here delegates will also have a beautiful distant view of Mount Longonot on the rift floor to the northwest and Mount Suswa to the south.
Viewpoint: Stratovolcano and caldera system rising approximately 2,700 meters above sea level within the central Kenya Rift.
Stop 2. Olkaria Geothermal Development Complexes
Delegates will then travel to Olkaria via Naivasha Town, passing through the numerous flower farms located along the shores of Lake Naivasha, before proceeding to the Olkaria Geothermal Development Complexes. The visit to the Olkaria Geothermal Fields will demonstrate valuable insights into the broader energy landscape and the evolving role of subsurface resources in supporting sustainable energy development.

Stop 3: Hell Gate National Park
Delegates will drive to the Hell`s Gate National Park, which is tucked deep into the floor of the Great Rift Valley, standing between 2187 metres and 1560 meters above sea level.
Delegates will get a unique opportunity to experience the geological and environmental features that make the East African Rift System one of the world’s most significant energy and tectonic provinces. The Park provides the ideal fun in the wild experience across all markets and ages.
Fischer`s Tower in Hell`s Gate National Park
Day 3: 7th March 2027
Stop 1: Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Pump Station 25
Delegates will depart from Naivasha and drive to Nakuru to visit the KPC Pump Station Number 25. The drive provides a unique opportunity to the delegates to experience the infrastructural and energy landscape of Kenya`s Central Rift Valley. The Nakuru Pump Station forms part of KPC`s integrated midstream infrastructure.

Thereafter, delegates will be driven back to Nairobi to depart for Kigali from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Fees: US$ 700 per person
Cost includes transport, accommodation, meals and park fees.
Delegates should also ensure that they come with the appropriate field gear e.g. field boots.
