Rusororo Fuel Depot and Bugarama Geothermal Prospect
5th – 7th March 2027
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, delegates will be welcomed and transferred to their designated hotel for an overnight stay in Kigali. allowing time for rest before the excursion begins.
Day 2: Rusororo fuel depot and the future strategic fuel reserve site in Ruhanga.
Delegates will visit the Rusororo Fuel Depot and the future strategic fuel reserve site in Ruhanga. Rusororo is Rwanda’s largest petroleum storage facility, with a capacity of 67.5 million litres and an LPG expansion project of 17,100 cubic metres which is under construction, supporting national and regional energy security. Rwanda currently holds 118 million litres of petroleum reserves, with plans to increase capacity to 230 million litres by 2029 and 299 million litres by 2035 through strategic investments in Ruhanga with tangible incentives to facilitate investors.
After exploring the fuel depot site, delegates will have lunch at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre and stay for night preparing for the next day’s excursion.
Day 3: Bugarama Geothermal prospect
Bugarama Hotspring
Delegates will depart from Kigali, traveling southwest to visit the Bugarama Geothermal Hotsprings.
Bugarama, located 115 km from Kigali, showcases Rwanda’s hydrothermal activity, including hot springs and travertine deposits. Rwanda has an estimated potential of 100 MW of geothermal power, which represents a sustainable and eco-friendly energy resource. This potential can significantly lower the costs of electricity generation compared to current oil-based power sources. This prospect is positively promising to the future clean energy industry in Rwanda.
After exploring the geothermal site, delegates will have lunch at the Mantis Kivu Marina Bay Hotel.
Delegates will return to Kigali for an overnight stay in Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, preparing for the next day’s excursion.
Fees: US$1100 per person
Cost will cover local transport, meals, hotels and access to excursion venues and a guide
